Granules are welcomed by patients because of their good taste and easy swallowing. However, if it is taken improperly, it will affect the effect of taking it, and lead to the loss of the efficacy of the medicine and delay the disease. Therefore, the following four misunderstandings should be avoided when taking granule medicines.
Myth 1: Take it with hot water, unless there are special requirements in the instructions, the granules are generally taken with plain water. About 80% of Chinese patent medicine granules on the market need to be taken with hot water, such as Ganmao Qingre Granules, Banlangen Granules, Weisu Granules, etc., but some Chinese patent medicine granules need to be taken with warm water, while Amoxicillin Granules, Acetyl Cysteine Granules, etc. Western medicine granules such as acid granules are required to be dissolved in warm water not exceeding 40°C. Excessively high water temperature will lead to degradation of the active ingredients of the drug.
Misunderstanding 2: Regardless of the amount of water for brewing, if there is no special requirement in the water consumption instructions for brewing granules, the ratio of adding 200 ml of water to every 10 grams of medicine can be used, and the medicine can be taken after the medicine is completely dissolved. For suspension granules (such as cefixime dry suspension), if the amount of water is too small, the drug will form agglomerates, which will affect the absorption and reduce the efficacy of the drug.
Misunderstanding 3: Throw away the sediment For insoluble medicines such as suspension granules, it is impossible to completely dissolve the medicine no matter how you stir it. If you only drink the solution and discard the remaining sediment, the efficacy of the medicine will be greatly reduced. The correct way is to add an appropriate amount of water and stir evenly, and take the sediment as much as possible.
Misunderstanding 4: Don’t care about granule excipients. Excipients such as sucrose and aspartame are often added to granules. “Sugar lovers” must pay attention to the sucrose content in granule medicines, and sugar-free dosage forms can be used if necessary. Also, people with phenylketonuria should not take aspartame.
