Eyes "sell out" cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases

"The eyes are the windows to the soul", this sentence originated from the famous painter Leonardo da Vinci, which means that the eyes can express thoughts and feelings, and even subtle emotions that are difficult to express in words can be displayed through the eyes. From a medical point of view, with the development and progress of technology, some signs of disease may be seen through the eyes, especially it may indicate the risk and prognosis of some cardiovascular diseases.

Arterial blockage and sudden blindness in one eye. The arteries of patients with high blood pressure become thinner and the blood flow is relatively slow; the arterial endothelium is damaged, the inner walls of the blood vessels are rough and narrow, and it is easy to form blood clots. Once the emboli block the arteries, the patient's eyes will suddenly become invisible. Our retina relies on the central artery for blood supply. If the artery is blocked, it will lead to retinal ischemia and hypoxia. The disease is more common in patients with hypertension and arteriosclerosis, mainly in the elderly with cardiovascular disease, and occasionally in young patients. 90 minutes is the prime time to rescue patients with central retinal artery occlusion. More than 90 minutes, retinal nerve tissue often occurs irreversible damage. Therefore, if the patient suddenly cannot see anything, with only light perception or no light perception, seek medical attention in time to avoid delay in treatment and permanent loss of vision.

High blood pressure changes the fundus. The human retina is very sensitive and is the only tissue in the body that can directly and non-invasively observe blood vessels and microcirculation throughout the body. Any changes in the retina can reflect the health of other parts of the body. Cardiac load can be distinguished from the distribution of blood capillaries and congestion in the eyes; the degree of pathological changes in the fundus is sufficient to reflect the progress of hypertension. That is to say, the more severe the fundus changes, the longer the hypertension and the more severe the condition. It is recommended that patients with high blood pressure must adhere to the medication as prescribed by the doctor. Once vision loss occurs, they should seek medical treatment as soon as possible, and check the fundus every 3-6 months.

Vision loss increases the risk of death. With the popularity of electronic products, the incidence of vision loss has increased significantly, and there is a trend of younger people. Vision impairment was previously thought to be a major inconvenience, but recent research published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology has shown that vision impairment significantly increases the risk of cardiovascular death. A total of about 580,000 subjects were included in the study, with an average age of 39.7 years. The subjects were divided into 4 groups according to the eye with better vision: normal group, reduced vision group, mild visual impairment group and moderately severe visual impairment group. loss group. After 8.1 years of follow-up, a total of 6585 people died, of which 974 people died of cardiovascular disease. After adjustment for all suspicious factors, compared with the normal vision group, all-cause mortality increased by 21%, 26%, and 54% in the reduced vision group, mild vision impairment group, and moderate-severe vision impairment group, respectively. Mortality rates increased by 32%, 43%, and 141%, respectively. Han Suying, the head of the study, believes that for visually impaired people, it is not only necessary to treat eye diseases, but also to actively investigate cardiovascular diseases and strengthen preventive measures.

Eyelid xanthoma, dyslipidemia. This "tumor" is actually an orange-yellow rash that often occurs on the inner canthus skin of the eyelid, progresses slowly, and rarely heals on its own. Eyelid xanthomas are more common in middle-aged and elderly women, especially in obese women with less activity and excess nutrition. Excessive lipids will be deposited in a certain part of the body. After they are engulfed by cells, they form flakes of various shapes. Xanthomas of the eyelid are a common one. If middle-aged and elderly people find that they have eyelid xanthoma, they should go to the hospital to check their blood lipids as soon as possible.

The edges of the black eyeballs are gray, and the blood vessels are hardened. Fat builds up around the cornea, covering the front of the eye. This condition, called a corneal ring, is common in middle-aged and older people and is marked by a gray-white ring around the edge of the cornea. The corneal senile ring appears in middle-aged and elderly people, which is generally not painful or itchy, and the vision will not decrease, so it is easy to be ignored. Therefore, remind middle-aged and elderly friends to look in a mirror and check their eyes. If you find a corneal senile ring on the edge of the black eyeball, you should ask a doctor to check whether you have hyperlipidemia and atherosclerosis as soon as possible.
