Love by the Broken Bridge

In every great city, there is love everywhere. They are wanton and euphemism, or silent, or vigorous. And almost all the loves that have been passed down are tragic, full of youthful stubbornness and cruelty. Those young lives are free and rebellious against the secular, and they are jealous and hated by others without any scruples. The sadness they sing makes the temperatureless bridges, castles, windowsills or hills stained with human spirituality.

The bustling city of Hangzhou and the beautiful West Lake are the easiest places to breed love.

For thousands of years, they have grown when they see the wind, and they have performed enthusiastically and melancholy in every corner. In other words, without the occurrence of these love stories, no matter how great the city and the beautiful scenery may be, it may be empty and lacking, and it will not be worrying and wandering.

Listening to me talking about these insights on love, she said blankly: "You are too normal."

She is a master of love, a semi-professional playwright and oil painter, and is still on the Himalaya Listening Book APP There is a fee-based course on emotional management, but in my opinion, her own emotional management is basically "watermelon rind" type - slide it wherever you go. Now, she lives in Xianghu Lake, Xiaoshan, Hangzhou, and is keen on incense sticks and banzhang tea (a type of Pu'er tea). She told me that when she was in college, her boyfriend was admitted to Zhejiang University, and she came to Hangzhou to visit: "We rented a house in Baishaquan Village outside the campus. In the early morning, we often climbed the back mountain to the first balcony (Qiantang One of the Ten Scenes). Those were really simple days."

"There are three main types of heroines in love stories by the West Lake, either prostitutes, concubines, or demons." After hearing her say this, it was my turn to face Expressionless.

In the Ming Dynasty, ordinary people went to teahouses to listen to books, which became the most popular entertainment among the people, and thus promoted the great popularity of Huaben novels. At that time, the commercial and cultural centers were all in the south of the Yangtze River, and the authors selected materials that were not far away. Therefore, the most popular stories were often from the Southern Song Dynasty and the beginning of the Ming Dynasty, and the places were often in Suzhou and Hangzhou, and the theme was often love. Creators often choose real place names, even specific to street shops and scenic spots, which creates a wonderful "fact scene" for the legend.

The most famous words in the Ming Dynasty In this work "Three Words and Two Beats", there are 108 legendary stories with Jiangnan as the background, accounting for 70% of the total, and 34 stories with Hangzhou as the background, which is the most in any city. And among these more than thirty stories, most of them are love tragedies.

There are four love stories in ancient China, namely Meng Jiangnu crying on the Great Wall, Cowherd and Weaver Girl, Legend of the White Snake, Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai. Among them, two occurred on the banks of the West Lake in Hangzhou.

During the Spring Festival or National Day holiday every year, among the scenic spots of West Lake in Hangzhou, the most crowded bridge is definitely the Broken Bridge. The reason why it is called Broken Bridge is because in the early years, there was a pavilion on the bridge. Whenever it snowed, the snow on the bridge seemed to be broken, so good people called it Broken Bridge. This pavilion was still there in the early days of the Republic of China, but now the pavilion has been lost, and the Broken Bridge is indeed not worthy of its name.

Such explanations, tourists will certainly not recognize. Because in their minds, in the history of Chinese culture, it is a bridge of "heartbroken people in the end of the world".

It is said that during the Shaoxing period of the Southern Song Dynasty (1131-1162), Xu Xian, the young owner of the Bao’antang Pharmacy, went out of the city to visit the spring in Qingming. When he arrived at the Broken Bridge, it was raining lightly in the sky. He and Bai Niangzi met under an umbrella. The lady begins to fall in love and becomes forever good. Unexpectedly, Bai Niangzi is a thousand-year-old snake demon, so the monk Fahai came from Zhenjiang to collect the demon. Fahai used realgar wine to make Bai Niangzi show her true shape, and then took Xu Xian to Jinshan Temple. Bai Niangzi flooded the Jinshan Temple to save her husband, and was finally suppressed under the Leifeng Pagoda.

The earliest version of this legend appeared in the Tang Dynasty. In the Ming Dynasty, it was written into "Jingshi Tongyan" by Feng Menglong and became the basic version today. In the story, Xu Xian is timid and submissive, while Bai Niangzi is a fairy, but she values love and righteousness, and dares to act. In the patriarchal Chinese society, her extremely vivid personality reflects the inner desire and unwillingness of thousands of women.

"Actually, in Feng Menglong's version, Bai Niangzi was trapped in the Leifeng Pagoda of 'Yongzhen', and there was no plot of water flooding and saving her husband. These were all added bit by bit by folk storytellers." After all, he is a drama creation major. Graduated, she is more familiar with the evolution history of the story than me, but the meaning of what she said is strange - "Look at so many ancient myths, there are only two most modern, but unfortunately the protagonists are not human, one is The monkey on Huaguo Mountain and the snake by the Broken Bridge."

"What happened to your boyfriend in Baishaquan?"

"I'm not a snake, he's far worse than a monkey."

The story of Bai Niangzi takes place at the easternmost end of the Baidi. A single-hole stone bridge rests on it, it is called Xiling Bridge. There is also a love story waiting for you here.

It is also said that during the Qi Dynasty in the Southern Dynasties, there was a young singing prostitute Su Xiaoxiao in Qiantang County. Here, he met Ruan Yu, the son of the prime minister who came to visit the West Lake from Jiankang. side.

Su Xiaoxiao's storyline soon turned tragic: Jiankang Prime Minister's mansion certainly couldn't tolerate a geisha, Jiangnan misty rain, pine and cypress evergreen, and ultimately failed to retain Ruan Gongzi's heart. Su Xiaoxiao, who is hopeful that her husband will not return, is unhappy all day long. One day, she met Bao Ren, a struggling scholar, and gave him a hundred gold to help him take the exam. Soon, Su Xiaoxiaoxiang Xiaoyu died at the age of eighteen. On the day of the burial, Bao Ren, who had become the prefect of Huazhou in the imperial examination high school, arrived, hugged the corpse and cried bitterly. In accordance with Su Xiaoxiao's last wish, Su Xiaoxiao's tomb was repaired by the Xiling Bridge. Up to now , the tomb has been preserved, next to the Mucai Pavilion, and there is a couplet saying:

Jade was buried here in Hushan, and

the people of Huayue can cast gold.

She has something to say: "Actually, Su Xiaoxiao's story is the main mode of love in the West Lake. From ancient times to the Republic of China, the small villas by the West Lake were mostly used to store prostitutes and concubines. The poets of the Northern Song Dynasty There was a tomb of Feng Xiaoqing next to Lin Hejing's tomb, she was the concubine of a big family, and she was extremely talented

. The story of Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai happened in the east of the West Lake.

Zhu Yingtai is the eldest lady of Shangyu Zhujia Village. She disguised herself as a man and went to study in Hangzhou. On the way, she met Liang Shanbo, a scholar from Yanxian County.

After completing their studies, they went home respectively. Zhu Yingtai hinted and made clear all the way, but Liang Shanbo was always dumb as a goose.

If there is a lover who ends up getting married, there will be no drama in the world to sing. The later story of "Liang Zhu" is: Liang Shanbo finally knew that "Xiandi" was a daughter, but Zhu Yingtai was already engaged to someone else. The nerd student became sick of lovesickness and died, and Zhu Yingtai rushed to the grave to cry. All of a sudden, the tomb of Liang was cracked open. Zhu Yingtai jumped in and the tomb was closed. The clouds were scattered and the sky was clear, and a pair of butterflies flew out from the grave, and they followed the sky and the earth.

A mournful beam of blessings, weeping for a hundred-year-old infatuated lover. This story is often compared to "Romeo and Juliet" in Europe, which shows that it is the most helpless common thing in the world.

These loves by the broken bridge all happened "outside the city". For thousands of years, the Chinese people's secular feelings have been bound by etiquette. Men are restrained and rigid, and women are humble and passive, with almost no initiative to pursue emotional freedom. Therefore, in the "outside the city" Broken Bridge, Xiling and Changqiao, under the cover of pure nature, people violently release their inner instincts and desires. Whether it is a human or a demon, a son or a prostitute, the momentary impulse of love is enough to make all identities trivial.

However, this is destined to be a sad process. The protagonists in the story swear to death, but because of their resistance to the world, they are only related to short-lived passions. However, these legends persisted stubbornly. When they appeared in the songbook and on the stage, the teenagers found the courage to continue their rebellion, and the adults who had gone through a thousand mountains and rivers recalled the absurd things they did years ago. Thinking of this, I feel sad in my heart, and the plum blossoms in the mountains fall.

That afternoon, we sat in the courtyard of the guest house and drank tea to the point where it was too bland. She felt that I actually didn't understand the love by the broken bridge. Finally, she asked me a question: "You tell me, in these stories that happened in your Hangzhou, why the hero is either a coward, a heartless man, or an idiot?"

I was speechless. Finally realized that she likes incense sticks and banzhang so much now, which actually makes sense.
