My Fair Lady Effect

Someone once told a joke called "Schrödinger's roll" - if your girlfriend asks you to "go", she is actually in a "superposition state" of the two mental states of really letting you go and letting you hug her. ".

Your next move -- an "observation" in physics parlance -- will collapse the superposition to a stationary state. If you do, she probably really wants you to. If you go and hug her, she may think she wants you to hug her in the first place.

As a former physicist, I must state that "Schrödinger's roll" and "Schrödinger's cat" are two different things. A key difference is that the collapse of a quantum superposition turns out to be completely uncontrollable, and physicists, even with their best wishes, can't increase the probability of a cat collapsing to be "alive."

And you can control your girlfriend's wave function.

The resource is still this resource, the girlfriend is still this girlfriend, what can you do to make her better?

In the 1970s, someone did a blind date experiment with male and female college students. The blind date subjects in the experiment had never met, and did not meet during the blind date process, but only communicated over the phone. Experimenters assessed each pair's progress by "eavesdropping" on the conversations over these phone calls.

The experiment had a somewhat brutal setting. Some boys will receive a photo of their blind date before a blind date on the phone - but he doesn't know that this photo is actually not the girl's, but a photo of a particularly outstanding beauty specially selected by the researcher.

The boy thinks he is dating the "goddess", and we can imagine that he will perform better, but the researcher is not concerned with the performance of the boy, but the performance of the girl on the other end of the phone.

As a result, the girl who was mistaken for a goddess by the boys also behaved like a goddess. She is very friendly in speaking and feels very sociable, bright and likable.

This, of course, is what we often call "positive feedback" before. If you think she's good, you're good to her; you're good to her, she's really good; she's good, and you believe she's good.

The key is that the feedback process between the two of you is often very subtle, and all kinds of unspeakable changes in expressions and tones can be captured by the other party and can have inadvertent effects.

Bernard Shaw had a play called "The Flower Girl", which was later adapted into a Hollywood movie and translated into "My Fair Lady". The story goes that a linguist made a bet that he could train a vulgar street flower girl—named Eliza—to have a high-society accent and become a lady.

The linguist's accent training went well, but others could see at a glance that Eliza was not a lady, and her manners were wrong. Then someone came up with an insight: If you want her to be a lady, you have to treat her like a lady. Eliza enjoyed the treatment of a lady, was respected everywhere, and finally became a real lady.

Whoever you think she is, she is who she really is in the end. This effect is called the "My Fair Lady Effect", and it has a very wide range of application in life.
