Willfulness is also a way of life

Luye Jingming suffers from muscular dystrophy and was predicted at the age of 12 that he "will not live to be 18 years old." He can't turn over on his own, only his head and hands can move, and he needs to have 4 escorts within 24 hours. This is equivalent to 120 nurses a month, and 1460 nurses a year. At the age of 23, he insisted on leaving his parents to live independently.

To remove the moral shackles of "fear of trouble others", to break the social prejudice and loneliness filter of the disabled, from despair to self-closing to living out of real self, Yasumi Kaye insisted on only one thing-the only thing that cannot be done is to do Rely on others. No matter what you encounter, you must live as much as possible! His story has deeply affected people from all walks of life in Japan, such as students, doctors, housewives, and teachers in Japan.

  1

Luye Jingming decided to "live separately from his parents" in 1983, when he was 23 years old.

This is because of his strong idea, that is, "I hope my parents will live their own lives and don't become a victim because I am a disabled person." In addition, there are other reasons that forced him to have this idea.

However, judging from the welfare status of the disabled at that time, there were basically only two ways of life for the physically disabled: let their parents take care of them for the rest of their lives, or live in facilities for the physically disabled.

Lu Ye didn't choose any of them, but embarked on a road full of thorns. People with severe physical disabilities challenge "independent life".

From then on, finding a caregiver and adjusting his schedule became his "work" for survival. He took to the streets in an electric wheelchair to distribute flyers, gave lectures at universities and medical welfare institutions, and put up recruitment advertisements in newspapers to recruit volunteers and explain the necessity.

However, how to fill the number of people 24 hours a day and 365 days a year is a serious problem.

Regarding the day of nursing Luye:

1 person each for "daytime" (11 am to 6 pm) and "night" (6 pm to 9 pm), and "accompany night" (9 pm to 11 am the next day) Two people are needed, and a three-shift system with a total of four people is implemented.

In simple calculations, it would require 120 nurses a month and 1,460 nurses a year.

There are papers on the wall next to Luye's bed, which are full of convenient schedules for each volunteer. It's like this:

Guan: No time in the second and third weeks of July.

Yokoyama: No 7/1, 7/18, 7/21 exam, 8/8~8/12 to participate in the club’s summer stay.

Kobayashi: 7/1~7/16 internship, 7/28~8/5 back home, the rest of the time except Friday is all right.

Imai: Except Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, they are all available. 7/26~8/1 are not available.

Endo: From July to September, you can stay overnight on Tuesdays, and there is no problem during the daytime on Sundays.

Sakamoto: Examinations and tours are available from mid-July to late July, and you can come in mid-August (except Saturdays).

  Ito: No on 7/18, 7/25, 7/4, 7/11, 7/26.

Masato Bayama, an old volunteer who once helped adjust the schedule, said: “Coordinating volunteers is as complicated as jigsaw puzzles.”

If many volunteers come at a fixed time every week, things would be easy, but most What people want is a non-fixed time once or twice a month, and the schedule changes according to the situation of the volunteers. And when "staying in", try to match veterans with newcomers, and divide them into "people with good spirits at night" and "people with good spirits during the day", and some volunteers will "conflict" when they are grouped together.

The more such pieces of puzzles and considerations, the more complicated the coordination. Fortunately, there are housewives who participate regularly in the "daytime", but the "night" and "accompanying night" are mostly occupied by irregular volunteers. Lu Ye stared at the schedule, even arranging a scheduled plan two months later.

There are about 40 volunteers in the event, of which 70% are students and 30% are housewives and social people. When it comes to graduation and job hunting season, the personnel will naturally undergo a big change in blood.

Luye has a catch phrase: "People squeeze in like squeezing toothpaste, and then squeeze it out. Will my life be spent like this?"

The most troublesome is the examination period of the students and the holiday of returning to their hometown in groups. Because vacancies cannot be filled, it often takes a long time to keep calling.

Even if the schedule is arranged in advance, young people are always busy. For example, club outings, internship programs, colds... and the call to cancel the night before.

  2

However, everything is fine without filling the schedule. In the final analysis, the key is people's "quality."

Especially in 1995, after Lu Ye wore an artificial ventilator, he had another "sputum suction" problem. He had to train volunteers who could suck sputum.

In Japan, sputum suction is originally a "medical act" and only doctors, nurses, and medical workers can do it.

In this case, the user of the respirator cannot leave the ward for the rest of his life.

As a result, Luye found a way to survive, and Japan expanded its interpretation of the exceptions allowed in medical behavior-"blood relatives, family members". That is

to say, here's volunteers, in terms of Kano is "family in the broad sense" (can also be interpreted as the face of danger will have abandoned the people, the people must take "emergency measures").

As long as Lu Ye says "volunteers are my family", no one can interrupt. Volunteers will not be held accountable even if a mistake in sputum suction causes the worst. This way of life is based on such a firm determination.

At 5 o'clock in the evening, the population density of Luyejia reached its peak.

This is "newcomer training" to teach newcomer volunteers how to care for them. On the same day, five first-year students from the health school, one first-year student from the Welfare University (all six girls are 18-year-old girls) and another boy surrounded Luye’s bed.

"Kawabori-kun, today's training is handed over to you."

Masashi Kawabori, a male student named by Luye, is a medical student. But he actually had a year and a half of volunteer experience and was promoted to be the training lecturer for this day.

With a serious tone, he began to explain the respirator to the newcomers.

"Ventilator alarms are divided into upper and lower limits..."

To become a dedicated volunteer, you have to start with sputum suction, then to the knowledge of artificial ventilator, the replacement and inspection of medical equipment, the knowledge of emergency treatment, and the measurement The method of pulse and blood pressure...must be trained five or six times. If it is a volunteer who only comes once or twice a month, it will take two or three months to operate independently.

Afterwards, Lu Ye revealed: "Training is very tiring." From April to June, he was busy training new volunteers almost every day, and his physical strength was particularly overwhelming.

People often feel inferior if they can't move their bodies. When accepting the help of others, I naturally feel that it is "distressed" and "troublesome to others".

I thought it was the same atmosphere between Luye and the volunteers.

However, Lu Ye was right and confident from the beginning, just like a "teacher" with a decent appearance. Accepting help and teaching skills existed in him without any contradiction.

"Why do I need to take potassium? Because once hypokalemia occurs, it will cause muscle weakness and impaired consciousness."

"This is very important. Why do I need to manage urine? Because of cardiac insufficiency..."

Lu Ye began to use The loud voice explained the attention points of his body and medical care.

This training happened to be attended by many health school students, medical college students, welfare students and future experts. In their opinion, they can also learn free knowledge from Luye.

Rather, it is Luye who is thanked. In this place, Luye is not a "weak" at all.

  3

Sometimes, Lu Ye would have disputes with volunteers, colliding fierce sparks.

What is nursing? What is willfulness?

Because of their volunteer status, volunteers must keep asking themselves these questions. After all, the "excuses" of "work is always helpless" do not work at all.

Why do you want to come here? Why do you want to help this person?

Perhaps someone who has been worried about these issues earlier than others is Kunoyoshi Tomohiro who works as a reporter for NHK Obihiro TV.

Kunoyoshi Tomohiro started as a volunteer in 1994 when he studied in the Faculty of Agriculture of Hokkaido University. That is the year before Luye wore the respirator.

"When I came to Mr. Luye, there were only about 10 volunteers. In the first year, the nursing was not very hard. But since his lung muscles weakened and he was hospitalized with a ventilator, his life became like hell. It’s like a long night. My mind is full of my own business. I don’t have enough energy to take care of Mr. Luye’s feelings. This has left a very painful memory for Mr. Luye. I am reflecting on it. But looking back, I really I am very fortunate that I have gained a volunteer experience here. If I had not had these two years, I would be more cowardly than I am now. I am a selfish ghost who does not care about the feelings of others."

Volunteer work during the hospitalization is "hell" for Guoji.

At that time, Guo Ji was faced with the common problem of Sikong, namely the collision of human desires.

"Speaking of the most impressive thing with Mr. Luye, it must be the'banana incident'."

During the hospitalization, Luye has always been a "problem child"-not abiding by hospital rules, not observing bedtime, and severely picky eaters. In addition, Lu Ye, who is inseparable from help in all aspects of life, was also dismissed by the hospital for frequently pressing the beeper.

Regarding his symptoms and treatment, he would break the casserole to the doctor and ask: "Why do you need to inject diuretics now?" "What's the point of this medicine?" And so on, he was often bored by stalking young nurses. .

Not only that, at the Hokkaido Qin Medical Association Hospital where Luye was hospitalized, there was no precedent for a respirator patient to be discharged from the hospital at that time. In other words, once you put on an artificial ventilator, it means you can no longer leave the hospital, which is almost a common sense.

However, Lu Ye always talked about "want to go home" and said to doctors and nurses: "Aren't you going home after work? So I want to go home too!"

From the results, the idea became The opportunity to drive everything, but in the eyes of Guoji at the time, Lu Ye's words and deeds were sometimes just "willful". Every time he pointed out, Lu Ye would be met with strong hostility: "Is Xiaoguo from the female nurse's side?"

Guoji was particularly unacceptable when Lu Ye was "sleeping at night".

In the middle of the night when the inpatients fall asleep quietly, Lu Ye, who is insomnia, will press the caller in his hand mercilessly and ask people to do this and that. He didn't "can't sleep" but "can't sleep". Guo Ji didn't think much about it at the time. At night when he was exhausted from working, the nursing staff was particularly tortured.

Just as dissatisfaction was about to erupt, the "banana incident" happened.

One night, when Guoji was sleeping on the rudimentary accompany bed in the ward, he was awakened by Lu Ye's rattle. After asking him what happened, Lu Ye said, "I'm hungry, I want to eat bananas."

"What kind of bananas should I eat in the middle of the night!" Guoji was furious, but did not say anything. He just peeled off the banana peel and stuffed it into Luye's mouth without saying a word. There was an unspeakable tension between the two.

"Moreover, Mr. Luye's eating speed is very slow, and my arms holding bananas are getting sour. Finally, when he finishes eating, I have to throw the skins in the trash..."

Satisfied, right? Just let me go to sleep-Guoji's attitude is already obvious. Just as he was about to get into the bed, Luye said again: "Xiaoguo, one more one."

What! While Guoji was shocked, his anger at Luye quickly cooled down.

"That kind of emotional change, I still find it unbelievable. Let's listen to what he said. It is also great in a certain sense to be able to be willful. I might have thought that way at the time."

It is said that Guoji put it. This experience was written into the composition of the entrance examination, and successfully passed the NHK recruitment.

Today, he is an "outside reporter" at the scene of incidents and accidents, as well as a frontline reporter who will appear in the news.

Luye, the other party involved in the "banana incident", was thinking about it at the time?

"I just wanted to eat bananas, so I said, "I want to eat bananas." Xiaoguo didn't even look at me when he fed bananas. Although he was reluctant, he resisted it. After all, I'm not affectionate in this regard. "

  You won't be discouraged?"

"Of course you will. However, Xiaoguo can't break through his own shell. I can only surrender when he thinks that he is'searching for himself'. Alas, not so much surrender, I think' "Finding myself" may make him change. I am waiting for this possibility."

Luye and each volunteer seemed to fall asleep with different "stories". Lu Ye said this: "No matter which volunteer, I think I can see a part of myself in him, or project a part of myself on him..."

I asked Lu Ye: "So far, what are you doing? How many volunteers have dealt with?" "How many are there?" Lu Ye stared into the sky.

"It's not less than 500, but it should be less than 1,000. In short, I'm quite proficient."

  "Proficient?"

"Yes. Every volunteer has different ideas and different values. Moreover, even the able-bodied in Japan today cannot survive. It is not easy to lose love, parents divorced, fathers are laid off. That’s what I mean. I tried to catch these and figure out the topic. And this is the technology.”
