The "Maxwell Demon" in Love

The two people in love are particularly good at the beginning. Over time, various problems will arise. Much like the principle of entropy increase in physics, the relationship between two people will always become more and more chaotic.

Therefore, love needs to be managed, so how to manage it? I want to talk about the concept of Maxwell's demon, which comes from a thought experiment done by the British physicist Maxwell.

There is a second law of thermodynamics in physics, that is, the principle of increase in entropy, which refers to the total chaos of an isolated system, that is, "entropy" can only increase or remain unchanged, and never decrease. Maxwell wants to discuss under what circumstances the entropy increase principle fails.

So he imagined a scene: there is a space divided into two areas by a partition, and there is a valve on the partition. A little demon guards this valve, and it can observe the speed of all molecules.

When the little demon sees the high-speed molecules on the right come to the valve, it opens to let the high-speed molecules enter the left; when the little demon sees the low-speed molecules on the left come to the valve, it also opens to let the low-speed molecules enter the right.

If there is no friction in the valve, there will be more and more high-speed molecules on the left, getting hotter and hotter; on the right, there will be more low-speed molecules, getting colder. Therefore, the little demon seems to be able to reduce the entropy of the entire container without doing extra work. This model challenges the principle of entropy increase.

At that time, many scientists did not want to understand this matter. It was not until 1929 that physicist Hillard finally figured out that if the little demon wants to control the switch, although it has no work, it must obtain information, so the information entropy of the entire space has increased, and the principle of entropy increase still holds.

Back to the topic of love, how do we control the increase in entropy in love? You also need a Maxwell demon. Its job is to make information judgments and act as a regulating valve.

It’s often said that two people’s personalities are best complemented by each other, but I think it’s more ideal for them to form a "cross-lock" structure: a person who is flexible on the outside and rigid on the inside meets a person who is rigid on the outside and flexible on the inside. People. When you are tough, I am gentle, when you are introverted, I am extroverted.

The question is, at the same time, how can we ensure that the status of two people exactly match? What if one party’s inside just hits the other party's outside? At this time, the "Maxwell Demon" needs to be played. Its most important job is to judge the information. You need to be able to judge the current state of the opponent.

If the other party is determined, you should adjust yourself to be more easygoing. If the other party is not assertive right now, you'd better adjust yourself to be firmer.

"Maxwell Demon" requires you to do two things: judgment and self-regulation. If you can adjust freely in a relationship, you have formed a so-called tacit understanding.

This is the scientific explanation that love needs to be managed. Love is not only an art, but also a craft.
